V.G.B. Safety Act

Home Up

All public pools MUST have been in compliance with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act by December 19, 2008 but many are still not! There are stiff fines involved for anyone caught in non-compliance.

WHAT DOES THIS LAW INVOLVE:  The new law is so named after the granddaughter of Secretary of State, James Baker, who was tragically drowned in the family's backyard spa.  The accident was due to the young girl becoming entrapped on the bottom drain of the spa and being held beneath the water. This new law involves two separate areas of concern:

1.) Each swimming pool or spa MUST have drain covers installed which are approved by and conform to Standards set forth by the American National Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).  Compliance and enforcement of this Standard will be administered by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission)

2.) Every pool and spa having a single main drain, other than an unblockable drain, must be equipped with one or more additional devices or systems designed to prevent suction entrapment. These devices must meet ASME and ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Standards and are required in addition to the above described drain cover.  These devices include: Safety Vacuum Release Systems (SVRS), suction limiting vent systems, or automatic pump shutoff systems, which either stop the pump from running and/or allow it to loose prime.

We are proud to offer the Hayward Stratum VRS System, which is a true technological marvel!  When installed properly onto a pool or spa circulation system it constantly monitors and reacts to change in suction outlet systems.  additionally, the Stratum;

bulletAutomatically restarts in protection mode and eliminates nuisance tripping
bulletWill perform self-testing diagnostics tat perform a system check during each start-up.
bulletMeets or exceeds all relevant ASME/ANSE and ASTM performance standards

DON'T DELAY and suffer the embarrassment and financial loss of having your pool closed!  If you need assistance with coming into compliance with this new law, call us today.
