URGE-2-SUBMERGE The
Newsletter for Scuba Enthusiasts Volume
7, Number 5
October, 2001 This
newsletter is dedicated to promoting recreational SCUBA diving and to
helping divers to become better and safer divers by keeping them informed of
dive education opportunities, travel opportunities, as well as providing
valuable information on local diving events and other timely information.
You input is valued and appreciated! The
events which have occurred and continue to unfold around us each and every
day, certainly tend to have a numbing effect on all of us.
However, as our President has suggested, we all need to go about our
daily lives and activities, and for many of us that includes SCUBA. GILBOA
WEEKEND A group of local divers will be heading north for one final weekend of local camping and diving during the dates of October 19 – 21. Our destination will be GILBOA QUARRY. We will be departing on Friday at noon and then returning sometime Sunday afternoon. If you are interested in joining in the fun and relaxation, go to http://www.underwaterstuff.com/gilboa_weekend.htm for all of the details of the trip, including directions and a map of the quarry itself. NOTE: This will be the final opportunity of the year for any students wishing to complete check-out dives locally to get them in. If you would like to be included, please contact the shop to make the necessary arrangements!
FLORIDA SPRINGS TRIP During the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, a big group of divers from Ohio and West Virginia will be heading down to sunny Florida to dive the local springs, caverns, and caves. For anyone who does not subscribe, the latest (November 2001) of Skin Diver Magazine has an extensive article dedicated to some of the more than 250 freshwater springs which the north central area of Florida is so well know for. The article is full of great information as well as lots of pictures of many of the better known sites. Check-out the article by getting your copy at a newsstand. You can get subscription information from their web site it at www.skin-diver.com The main purpose of this trip, other than having fun, is for the purpose of conducting check-out dives for students from recent classes. However, as always, any certified diver is encouraged to come along and join in the fun and relaxing diving which this area of Florida is so famous for. The actual check-out dives will be conducted on Sunday, Nov. 18 and Monday, Nov. 19., with many people using Saturday and Tuesday as travel days. A number of divers however will be arriving in Florida a day or two earlier and some staying a day or two longer to do some extra diving. Students and staff from UnderWater World will be joining students and staff from Dive Tech & Sports, located in Hernshaw, WV for the training days All of the details for the trip, including pricing and lodging information can be found by clicking on www.underwaterstuff.com/florida_springs.htm Any student wishing to be included in the trip will need to contact the shop to let their intentions be known! excuses for surfacing with less than 500 PSI remaining: 10) Hey, I was checking my buddy’s gauge. He was supposed to be checking mine! 9) I thought the gauge was metric. 8) Wait a minute…this isn’t the tank that I started with! 7) I dunno; I’ve had this problem since I threw that little rubber circle thingy away! 6) Amazing how deep a breath you can take when your dry suit leaks! 5) My buddy had 1000 PSI. It’s a buddy average, right? 4) Don Don’t go below 500? I thought my instructor said “don’t go below 130.” 3) Don’t worry; I started 500 short. 2) I forgot to take the store display decal off the face of my new dive computer. And the number 1 worst excuse… 1) I thought the “E” stood for “Enough Air.” |
