Next O/W Class

Home Up

Our Next Open Water Class is underway at this time and we might have time for one final class of the winter.  If you are interested in getting in this class or know someone who may be, please let us know!  This class will be an SSI (Scuba Schools International) class and the instructor will be Dave Vetter.  All graduates of this class will be awarded the Open Water Diver card which has no expiration date and is honored at any dive destination around the world.

This class will require a combination of both Home Study work and Pool Training.  The Home Study work is accomplished through the new SSI Open Water Diver Manual and the accompanying DVD or VHS Video and allows complete flexibility with regards to the students time availability.  (Back in the "old days", students were required to attend six separate 2-hour classroom sessions but now we can limit this to only 2; one to hand out the student kits and complete some paperwork, and one to collect all of the "study guides" and administer a final exam.)

All pool sessions will be held at the beautiful Pike County YMCA in Waverly, OH and be held on WEDNESDAY evenings.

Below is the schedule for the present class:

DAY/DATE TIME

* Please arrive so as to allow enough time before each class to change into swimwear.  Each student will be required to have all "personal items" with them for each pool session.  "Personal Items' include, but are not limited to: Bathing Suit, Towel, Diving Mask (NOT Swim Goggles!), Snorkel, Fins and Booties.  Please see the Instructional Agreement which explains these issues in detail.

**We will be starting this class 15 minutes earlier than usual in order to go over Scuba Gear Assembly and familiarization at the side of the pool.

After the completion of the final pool session and the final classroom session, all that is required to complete the certification process are the Open Water "Check-Out" dives.  These four or five dives which must be held at an outdoor "natural" body of water.  These dives may be completed in a number of different ways and at a variety of destinations.  The various options will be explained and discussed during the course of the instruction.

Pricing

The cost for the entire course is $295* per student.  This fee includes all training related books and video materials, all SCUBA related gear (with the exception of "personal items"), all SCUBA tanks and air fills used during the pool sessions, and the actual certification card to be issued at the successful completion of all course requirements. The only items NOT included in this fee are the "personal items" and any additional fees involved with "check-out" dives such as park/quarry entrance fees and air fills involved with these training sites, travel expenses and appropriate "thermal protection" which may be desired/required at these sites.
